Vaughan was born in New Zealand, attended Takapuna Grammar School and graduated with a civil engineering degree from Auckland University. During the 1970s and ‘80s, Vaughan worked on large dam and water supply projects, was Resident Engineer on hydroelectric construction and spent two-and-a-half years in Papua New Guinea as Chief Engineer for the National Housing Commission. In 1987 he migrated to Australia. Vaughan was part of an aid group to Swaziland in 1989, developing a water resources computer model. On return to Australia in 1992 he left civil engineering to own and run a squash centre in Mackay, Queensland with his wife, Bernadetha. In 2006 they moved to Brisbane, running management rights unit and townhouse complexes until 2018. Now semi-retired, Vaughan has indulged his love for writing to present his third novel Consequences.
