FLAIL is a kind of blended adult fairy tale. It is imbued with historical revisionism, fantasy and supernatural elements, and magic realism, all of which coalesce in a mini epic mystery thriller. It is also a compelling "road" story of family, love and loss, and redemption, which are sometimes accompanied by some riffs of Bible black humour. While FLAIL’s reluctant hero initially appears to have possibly played a little too much Rugby without a crash helmet, his grit and bravery, his love of family, and his inherited gift of arcane prescience, cannot be easily dismissed.
